At a meeting of the Victory organizing committee on July 2, Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the proposal to award the title of "City of Labor Valor" to 20 cities of the country, including Irkutsk, according to the Kremlin website.
“In my opinion, nothing prevents the implementation of the proposals of our colleagues to award the honorary title“ City of Labor Valor ”to 20 cities at once. The arguments here are obvious and convincing and fully comply with the order and criteria of the federal law,” the president said.
We are talking about Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, Samara, Perm, Nizhny Tagil, Saratov, Omsk, Kazan, Novosibirsk, Yaroslavl, Magnitogorsk, Izhevsk, Ufa, Tomsk, Ulyanovsk, Ivanovo, Novokuznetsk, Irkutsk and Borovichi.
“I will sign all the necessary documents as soon as possible,” Putin promised.
In March 2020, the President signed a law establishing the title "City of Labor Valor". It is assigned to cities whose residents made a significant contribution to the achievement of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, ensuring uninterrupted production of military and civilian products at the city's enterprises, showing massive labor heroism and dedication. According to the president, applications for this title were received from 28 cities.
